Betsy Olson- Bad Ass

Betsy Olson is one of those musicians that you can help but love. How she manages to take the usual, stoic, dress in black,"I am too cool to dance" Seattle audience and turns them into foot-stomping, shaking, hands-in-the air, I love life rockers - is nothing short of amazing. Last night at the Columbia City Theater, she did that again. Sera Cahoone fantastically accompanied her with pulse-pounding, technically brilliant drumming skills. The way Betsy throws down on the guitar is a thing of beauty, while she is often compared to male guitarists because of her skill, her style and the way she performs on stage has a truly feminine appeal that is equal parts good-looking babe and total BAD ASS.

Keep your eye out for her next performance, she is not to be missed.

Betsy Olson: Lonely Woman Blues KEXP Reviews.
- (self-released)
This Seattle guitarist/vocalist debuts with a promising album of gritty, stripped-down blues-rock reminiscent of the Black Keys, though she also stretches out with some haunting, atmospheric ballads and a couple of straight-up rockers. While she just performs live as a two-piece with Sera Cahoone on drums, she fleshes out her sound a bit more here with bass and keyboards. Still, the focus is on Olson’s primal guitar riffs and Cahoone’s equally ferocious drumming. 10/7/2009 -Don Yates
